City Centre Valencia
Valencia’s 113.5-hectare historic city centre is grappling with the effects of touristification, rising logistical demands, extensive pedestrianisation, limited local social movements, and the costly maintenance of heritage structures. To tackle these issues, the ULL City Centre Valencia is taking a co-creation approach will be:
● Local-enjoyed, tourist-friendly, and small business-benefited
● Multi-stakeholder cooperation in heritage property maintenance
● Equipped with a smart low-carbon climate-neutral logistic diversity system
● Local residents, small business owners, local authority, and tourists co-creation and public space placemaking

Co-creation process

Stakeholder Mapping and cooperation formation
A comprehensive analysis will be conducted on the major actors in Valencia’s city centre, with the goal of identifying relevant stakeholders to participate in workshops focused on devising a collaborative strategy for placemaking in public spaces within the city centre.

Enhancing Public Space Action Plan
The task force of representatives of local stakeholders such as local shop owners, local residents, local authorities, and tourists (via the interviews and survey by UPV students) will have a series of brainstorming workshops on how to improve the public space that not only for the tourists but also for local residents and local business friendly.

Low-carbon Smart Goods Distribution
Undertaking Valencia’s vision of becoming climate neutral by 2030, the task will discuss with local authorities and shop owners on developing a good distribution system that can be energy efficient, environment-friendly, and suitable to the low-speed and filled-pedestrian city centre mobility system.

15mC Public Space in Historical City Centre
The task will monitor the whole co-creation process in ULL Valencia and provide urban interventions as appropriate. In addition, the experiences and lessons will be generated. The knowledge will be formulated into a recommendation for making a high quality 15mC in the historical city centre that can also be referenced by the other historic city centres.
