Old Shipyard (Young City)

In ULL Shipyard Gdansk the main focus will be on understanding and shaping local identities of the public spaces as well as incorporating various vehicles for delivering unique experiences within these, like i.e. artistic and cultural activities:

● Developing and testing different planning instruments and techniques (including AR in planning) in conceptualization, planning and development of 15 mC
● Shaping the methods associated with co-creation of the 15mC with participation of various stakeholders (including the private investors/land owners of ULL Gdansk)
● Identifying the importance and roles of the cultural institutions (i.e. Baltic Sea Cultural Centre) and other third sector stakeholders in the process of shaping the 15mC
● Focusing on public spaces, labelled with local identity, recall the past of the Shipyard and maintaining the artistic activities and culture events

Co-creation process

Mapping the Planning Instruments for 15mC in Old Shipyard 

The process of conceptualising, planning, and developing a 15mC in ULL Old Shipyard involves the exploration, creation, and evaluation of various planning instruments and techniques including the integration of AR into the planning process. This iterative and experimental approach aims to refine and optimise the vessel’s design, performance, and sustainability which are aligned with the local context of Old Shipyard.

Key Measures of Maintaining the Local Identity and Historical Values

To identify the roles of the various cultural institutions and third sector stakeholders in the Old Shipyard project. And then making a co-creation process to the shared vision for 15mC’s design, function, and purpose. Especially for public spaces that contain historical info, host current culture activities and showcasing the future dynamic of 15mC of old Shipyard.

Defining Sustainable Transition Pathway toward 15mC in Old Shipyard 

This task aims to initiate a co-creation process with different stakeholders of Old Shipyard with the support of all ENACT 15mC (ULL onsite workshop) the co-designing the transition pathway including making adaptable planning tools and methods, multi-stakeholder cooperation mechanism, community engagement, financial solution and monitoring project implementation etc.

15mC Sustainable Urban Transition Planning Toolbox 

The co-creation process in making the transformation of 15mC in Old Shipyard will be analysed by the research team of Gdansk ULL (including 3 principle project investigators and several other team members) and a toolbox of planning instruments for 15mC will be generated.

ULL results

The first phase centers on mapping and analyzing existing planning instruments for their application in the context of 15-minute city planning. This work is crucial to the conceptualization and aims to understand how existing tools can be used in the context of the participatory Urban Living Lab project.

A report presenting a picture of the context of the post-shipyard areas in relation to other examples of similar transformations.

Planning Instruments Analysis
A comprehensive analysis of existing planning instruments, including their strengths, limitations and potential for adaptation to the 15-minute city context.

Planning Instruments Development Proposals

A set of proposals for developing and adapting existing planning instruments in the context of 15-minute city planning.

To identify the roles of the various cultural institutions, stakeholders and create a common vision of the project, it is necessary to develop methods for preserving the local identity and historical values ​​of the post-shipyard areas.

Documentation of the Post-shipyard Areas
Documentation were prepared, containing historical, architectural descriptions, photographs and maps of the post-shipyard areas.

Recommendations for Protection and Management
Based on the analysis and research, recommendations were formulated regarding the strategy for protection and management of the post-shipyard areas.

Transformation Strategy
A transformation strategy, that takes into account the preservation of their cultural heritage while adapting to contemporary needs.

Initiation of the co-creation process with various stakeholders with the support of all participants of the ENACT 15-minute city transformation path, including the development of flexible tools and methods for planning and monitoring of project implementation. Substantive work and research methodology are planned.

Mobility and Accessibility Report
A detailed report containing an analysis of residents’ mobility, access to public transport and infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists in the context of post-shipyard areas.

Analysis of Social Needs and Services
Report presenting an analysis of the needs of the local community, including the identification of missing services.

Conceptual Transformation Model
Initial project of the conceptual transformation of the post-shipyard areas towards a 15-minute city. This model will include the location of residential areas, public spaces and services.

A set of instruments supporting the process of planning the sustainable transformation of urban space in line with the 15-minute city concept. The tools are intended to enable decision-makers and designers to effectively design the future of the city, providing residents with easy access to various services within a 15-minute radius.

Set of criteria
A set of criteria that will allow for assessing the compliance of planned transformations with the assumptions of a 15-minute city.

Interactive tools and maps
Interactive computer tools using augmented reality techniques that will allow understanding and analyzing planned changes in accordance with the 15-minute city concept.

Simulation models
Simulation and spatial models that will predict the impact of planned activities on various aspects of the city.
