Stakeholder Preferences for Haakon VII Street:
Red – Areas Disliked
Green – Areas Liked
Blue – Areas with Potential

The seven challenges that Haakon VII Street faces in transforming into a people-centered 15-minute city, based on workshop of ULL Trondheim.

The area is dominated by car traffic, making it unsafe for pedestrians, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, elderly and disabled. The area suffers from heavy traffic, creating pollution and noise, and deterring active transportation like walking or cycling.

The area’s layout is not conducive to walking, with long distances between key amenities and residential areas. Traffic noise and pollution reduce the attractivity both for pedestrians and cyclists.

Public transport options may be insufficient or poorly integrated, limiting access for those who rely on it to move around the city and within the area of H7 Street.

Large shopping malls dominate the space, reducing the diversity of services and amenities within a short distance for residents. The existing buildings and infrastructure are large and not scaled for pedestrians, making the environment less walkable.

There is a significant shortage of public green spaces, limiting opportunities for outdoor leisure and community interaction.

Land ownership and jurisdiction (land use zoning) issues complicate efforts to redesign the area cohesively for public benefit.

Collaborative efforts between developers, local authorities, and residents are hindered by complex administrative procedures and a lack of cohesive vision.
