ULL Gdansk Onsite Workshop (5-6 June 2025)

Reflecting on an inspiring two days in Gdańsk with the ENACT 15mC team!
On our first day at the Kainos headquarters , we explored the broader context of urban spatial planning and the 15-minute city concept. Our discussions focused on how planning activities and participatory processes can shape the city, particularly in an era of constant change. We examined how to foster these processes and what it truly means to understand a city in today’s context.
On the second day, we gathered at Kuntszt Wodny to analyse how digital tools—such as augmented reality and spatial model projections—can support participatory processes. These technologies help level the playing field, enabling participants to understand the urban context better and making the process more inclusive and accessible for all involved.
Key challenges identified included:
• Gentrification via tourism
• Social equality and inclusivity
• Building public trust in both municipal and academic actions
• Translating academic knowledge into accessible language for residents
• Engaging citizens so they understand the limits and responsibilities of planners, city managers, investors, and landowners
• Ensuring balanced participation so every social group’s voice is heard, regardless of economic or social status

These meetings mark the beginning of a broader, ongoing discussion on participatory and co-creation processes in urban policy, both locally and internationally. Together, we can shape better cities for everyone.
