It was a fantastic time spending two days with ENACT 15mC partners at the Urban Living Lab (ULL) in Trondheim, working on how to make people-centered 15-minute city.

On May 29-30, 2024, 13 international partners of the ENACT 15mC project, along with the ULL Trd local team and stakeholders, gathered for the first onsite ULL workshop in Trondheim. The ULL Trondheim, also known as Haakon VII Street (H7), is a car-based new urban development area featuring a mix of shopping malls and newly developed residential areas.

The workshop was a co-creation process between the ENACT 15mC team and local stakeholders, including residents, shopkeepers, real estate developers, and the municipality. During the workshop, we engaged in extensive discussions about the current challenges facing the H7 area that hinder its transformation into a pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly space. Together, we brainstormed potential solutions and suggestions to address these challenges.

The workshop was highly successful in bringing together ENACT 15mC partners and local stakeholders. We identified several key issues in the H7 area, such as the lack of green public spaces, the dangers posed by car traffic to pedestrians, especially children, complex land ownership and jurisdiction issues, oversized non-human scale blocks, and the burden of landfill. Understanding these challenges will help the ENACT 15mC team better comprehend the area and develop a more effective strategy for co-creating a vision and action plan for a people-centered 15-minute city transformation for H7.

Additionally, the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for other ENACT 15mC ULLs to identify cooperation opportunities with ULL Trondheim, such as using teaching and student projects as platforms for co-creation with local communities.
Many thanks to the ENACT 15mC team members who visited ULL Trondheim, and heartfelt appreciation to the local developers, residents, NTNU students, and their teachers for their significant contributions to the workshop.
